Your Guide to Preparing for Your First Massage Appointment 

Entering into your first massage appointment can be both exciting and nerve-wracking. You’re eager to experience the relaxation and rejuvenation that massage therapy offers, but you may also have questions about what to expect and how to prepare. Fear not! I’ve got you covered with this comprehensive guide to help you make the most of your first massage experience.

1. Choose the Right Type of Massage

Before your appointment, take some time to research different types of massages and determine which one best suits your needs and preferences. Whether you’re seeking relaxation, pain relief, or stress reduction, there’s a massage style out there for you. 

2. Communicate Your Preferences and Concerns

 Don’t hesitate to communicate openly with me about your expectations, preferences, and any specific areas of tension or discomfort you’d like me to address during the session. This ensures that your massage experience is tailored to your individual needs and comfort level. 

3. HYDRATE!

It’s super important to drink plenty of water before and after your massage appointment to help flush out toxins released during the session and prevent dehydration. Aim to drink at least one or two glasses of water in the hours leading up to your appointment, and don’t forget to pee before we start- toga runs are not as much fun as they sound like they’d be, and the girls at M salon do not need a show.

4. Arrive Early

Plan to arrive at least 10-15 minutes early for your appointment to allow time to find me (it’s a little confusing the first time), fill out some paperwork, and a brief chit chat with me to go over aforementioned paperwork. Arriving early helps you start your massage experience on a relaxed note without feeling rushed.

5. Avoid Heavy Meals

 It’s best to avoid eating a large meal immediately before your massage appointment, as this can make you feel uncomfortable and bloated during the session, possibly even a little gassy. Which doesn’t bother me, but I don’t want you to feel embarrassed or uncomfortable. Instead, opt for a light snack if you’re hungry, and save the heavy meal for after your massage.

6. Turn Off Your Phone

To fully immerse yourself in this relaxing experience, consider turning off your phone or putting it on silent mode before your massage appointment. This allows you to disconnect from distractions and focus on the present moment.

7. Follow Aftercare Recommendations

After your massage, we will go over some aftercare recommendations, such as stretches or self-care practices to help prolong the benefits of the massage. Be sure to follow these recommendations to maximize the effects of your massage experience. By following these simple tips, you can feel confident and prepared as you embark on your first massage appointment.
