In 1992, Queen Elizabeth II faced a series of significant personal and public challenges. She famously referred to this period as her “annus horribilis,” or horrible year. This tumultuous time included the breakdown of several royal marriages (#teamdiana), a devastating fire at Windsor Castle, and scandalous revelations about family members. Despite these hardships, the Queen demonstrated strength and dignity, ultimately emerging resilient from the trials of this difficult year.
Fast forward to the end of 2023 and the beginning of 2024, and head west about 3,500 miles, and there is Jenna having her own annus horribilis. Everything that could go wrong went wrong. I went through a painful divorce, totaled my car, moved to a new house that the previous owners TRASHED, and was let go from my job- needless to say, my mental health was at an all time low. True, my castle didn’t burn down, but honestly, if it would have, I wouldn’t have been the least bit surprised. Only, I wouldn’t have had the British tax payers footing the bill for the restoration, which is extremely unfortunate.
Moving into my new space at the commons has been incredibly helpful in my healing journey. The serene and inspiring environment has really helped me tap into my resilience and creativity. Running my own business allows me to pursue my passions, share my massage expertise, and make a positive impact on others’ lives in ways I never imagined. Being situated in a place of healing adds an extra layer of significance as I become a part of a community dedicated to wellness, recovery, and restoration. I am embracing this new chapter with optimism and determination, knowing that from this challenge I have the opportunity to create something extraordinary and beautiful, carrying on the work that the founders of the Traverse City state hospital started with their “beauty is therapy” philosophy in my own little way.
I’m pretty sure Queen Elizabeth would be proud
P.s. can you tell I’m excited for the new season of Bridgerton?!
